Background

Since 1962, House With No Steps (HWNS) has supported children and adults with intellectual, physical, sensory or psychiatric disabilities to live, learn and work in the community.

The challenge

In 2007 HWNS required a revamp of it’s private network services to accommodate growing demands in bandwidth.

The solution

Via IP proposed the solution of co-location and a combination of technologies enabling higher wider area network speeds. The HWNS head office in Sydney is now connected via both fibre and wireless links to provide high availability via diverse routing. This configuration is also used at two of their critical call centre sites, one in Parramatta and the other in Croudace Bay, while the other 18 sites are connected by additional technologies such as SHDSL and ADSL.

HWNS also utilise a voice over IP (VOIP) system. Via IP ensures that this bandwidth critical service is given priority above all other applications on the network. In addition the network is fully managed by Via IP’s HALO monitoring system which reports all failures or problems and is monitored 24/7 by Via IP’s NetOPS team. This also includes a VOIP monitoring module which allows Via IP and HWNS to monitor the health of voice traffic.

The result

All of HWNS sites are now better connected resulting in significantly improved communication between each HWNS site.
